Tacoma Waldorf School Early Childhood Early Childhood

The kindergartens at Tacoma Waldorf School can be one of the first places children begin to experience themselves outside of family life. As the children transition from the circle of family care, to the circle of community care, loving relationships are created and held by our circle of teachers.

Early Childhood Education Tacoma Waldorf SchoolIn the heart of Tacoma we have carefully crafted a rich environment filled with objects from the natural world to offer the children full exploration with their senses.

Children play freely with objects that can be transformed in their imagination. They develop listening and language skills by listening to, reciting, and acting out stories, poems, and nursery rhymes and by singing songs with their teachers and community. Children are nurtured by the security and comfort of thoroughly rhythmical routines. Each day offers the opportunity to experience healthy movement through circle work and free play as well as life skills such as sewing, woodworking, baking, gardening and kinder house care. The class comes together in the mid-morning to enjoy a warm, nutritious snack. Artistic offerings include: watercolor painting, drawing, beeswax modeling and other crafts.

Early Childhood Education Tacoma Waldorf SchoolKindergarteners play outside a good portion of every day, rain or shine. Our playground includes natural climbing logs, sandbox, swings, trees and garden beds. Through active outdoor play, the children joyfully develop and test their physical skills and experience the seasons.

In this truly natural, loving and creative environment, the children are given a range of activities, which foster the development of their imagination, creative and critical thinking, collaboration and healthy social skills and the development of their physical body.
Tacoma Waldorf School is a developing member of the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America.
