About the Tacoma Waldorf School About Us

Love. It all began in love. Our school began in the cradle of inspiration and imagination of two dear friends brought forth by the love for their younger sons. Their older children, and they themselves had been so touched by their experiences at Morning Star Waldorf School, that when those doors closed, they founded New Star Rising, which eventually became The Tacoma Waldorf School. Since 1992, our school has served over five hundred children. Each one has been touched by the love of these two mothers and their hope for their children and all children.

Governance The Board of Trustees, the Faculty, and Executive Council share the governance of Tacoma Waldorf School. The Office Manager and the Faculty Leads form the Executive Council, and serve together in an administrative role.

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the legal and financial well being of the school. The Board is comprised of community members, faculty members, and the office manager as an ex-officio member. The Board works hand in hand with our Community, Development Committee, Outreach Committee, Parents, Faculty and Staff. One of the Board’s most important goals is to expand community involvement and school wide communication so that the school community understands the role of the Board in the life of school. The Board takes seriously its role as guardian of the school and its future.

Parent Association

While not a “pillar” in our governance structure per se, the Parent Association is important to our model. The Parent Association, a community building organization, serves as the vehicle for full parental involvement in the life of the school community. The PA actively supports the work of the Board, and Faculty and contributes to the intellectual, physical and social climate and wellbeing of the school community.
